At the heart of Sentinel North is a vibrant community that continues to push its limits and deploy increasingly inspiring initiatives to advance our understanding of the changing North.
Marked by numerous networking opportunities and sustained efforts to increase the impact of research results, 2022-2023 has been a year of significant achievements for the committed members of the community.
Under the theme "Pushing the boundaries of knowledge", the 2022 Sentinel North Scientific Meeting was held from October 25 to 27 at the Quebec City Convention Centre. The event marked the long-awaited return to a face-to-face gathering of the research community, who answered the call with a conference program focused on the presentation of impactful results.

An unlikely mix of traditionally distant fields, Design ta science! demonstrated that bridging disciplines can yield great results. The initiative, which brought together students from Sentinel North and the École de design, tackled complex subjects through self-supporting visuals intended for a non-scientific audience. The visuals were the subject of a dedicated conference as well as being exhibited in the Quebec City library network. This initiative democratized access to northern research, contributed to a better understanding of the scientific issues involved and raised public awareness.
Once again this year, members of the Sentinel North community were recognized for their hard work and achievements. Whether through their international reach or the overall excellence of their careers, all contribute to Université Laval's influence and leadership. Sentinel North is extremely proud to present some of its inspiring community members, who have greatly contributed to its research endeavours and outreach in 2022-2023.
Working alongside the members of its Student Association (AÉSN) and numerous research collaborators, Sentinel North’s program office ensures the availability of resources and programs that catalyze collaboration, innovation, and the development of a vibrant interdisciplinary research community. This community derives its strength from the diverse and dynamic nature of its members, as well as their shared commitment to learning within an open and inclusive environment.
Looking to the future, the Sentinel North team is committed to actively contributing to Université Laval's institutional plan, and to generating more connections between academia and society, with the overall goal of increasing the impact of research and innovation.
To be able to participate in a flagship program like Sentinel North is for us an opportunity to contribute to the foundations of collaborative, innovative and inclusive research for the North, which translates into real and lasting benefits for our university and society.
